Zoey & Keylee
|
Zoey, top, and Keylee, bottom, were "omphalopagus"
twins, fused from the lower breastbone to the navel. They had separate chest cavities and rib cages, but a part of their diaphragm was shared.
Their livers were fused and they shared complex systems of blood vessels and tissues. The twins were successfully separated during a complexed surgery at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. They are pictured here on April 22, 2009.
